HOW TO GET READY FOR SKATING

  • Do you feel you are in good basic physical condition?  Are you able to get up and down from the ground and balance enough to walk on the ice?
  • Do only what your skill level allows - don’t bite off too much until you are ready!
  • Dress for winter:  warm socks, mittens, hats, jacket, wind breaker, warm skates, helmet.
  • Stay away from thinner ice areas: under bridge, near open water, or moving current.
  • Entry points for skating on Mascoma Lake are Lakeside Park or private access points as appropriate.
  • Take an Ice Safety Course - check in with the local fire departments.
  • Have an Emergency Plan in case of falls or injury (cell phone, phone numbers.)
