TIPS TO STAY SAFE ON THE ICE
- Make Sure the Ice is Thick Enough For Safe Skating.
- Stay Away From Thin Ice Areas. (Less than 4 in.) Under the bridge, around water inlets, near open water or water with current.
- Skate with others and skate in daylight.
- Carry a charged cell phone.
- Dress appropriately. Wear layers and be prepared for hands, feet and head. Carry extra clothes.
- Prepare for cross winds, wind chill and skate speed.
- Be aware of varying ice conditions. Watch for ice patches and changing surface conditions.
- Learn how to self rescue. Carry Ice Claws if skating long distances. Read up or watch a video on how to use them.
- Skate cautiously at YOUR own level of skill.
